I wasn't looking to start a business. I was sitting at home one afternoon when a thought crossed my mind that I couldn't shake.
Nobody actually enjoys the supermarket run for water.
The heavy bottles. The trolley that pulls left. The car boot that smells like plastic by the time you get home. It's one of those small, recurring inconveniences that everyone just accepts because nobody has made it easy enough to do differently.
But the more I sat with that thought, the bigger it got. Because the problem wasn't just the inconvenience. It was that the supermarket shelf, for all the space it dedicates to water, offers almost no real discovery. The same brands, the same labels, the same experience every single time.
I spent ten years of my life in New Zealand, and that time quietly shaped the way I think about water. There's something about that country that makes you pay attention to what's beneath the surface. The landscapes are untouched in a way that gets under your skin. The water reflects that. You can feel it before you even read the label. Brands like Antipodes weren't an accident. They were inevitable.
That appreciation never left me.
When I moved to Melbourne, I carried it with me. And I quickly ran into the same wall most people hit without realising it. The supermarket shelves offered plenty of water, but very little of it was worth thinking about. Finding something genuinely exceptional meant heavy bottles, frustrating aisles, and a selection that had no real logic to it beyond whatever the distributor had decided to stock that month. The experience felt completely disconnected from the product itself.
There is a whole world of water shaped by geology, mineral composition, and origin that most people never get close to. Not because they wouldn't appreciate it, but because nobody had made it effortless to discover.
